COVID-19 Preparedness Plan

Uncommon Movement is committed to providing a safe and healthy fitness studio for all our staff and clients. To ensure that, we have developed the following Preparedness Plan in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. All staff are responsible for implementing this plan. Our goal is to mitigate the potential for transmission of COVID-19 in our studio, and that requires full cooperation among staff, management and clients. Only through this cooperative effort can we establish and maintain the safety and health of our staff, clients and the studio.

Staff and clients are responsible for implementing and complying with all aspects of this Preparedness Plan

Our staff and clients are our most important assets. We are serious about safety and health and keeping our staff and clients working and our clients safe at Uncommon Movement. Staff and client involvement is essential in developing and implementing a successful COVID-19 Preparedness Plan. Our Preparedness Plan follows Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) guidelines and federal OSHA standards related to COVID-19. It addresses:

  • hygiene and respiratory etiquette;
  • engineering and administrative controls for social distancing;
  • housekeeping – cleaning, disinfecting and decontamination;
  • prompt identification and isolation of sick persons;
  • communications and training that will be provided to managers and staff; and
  • management and supervision necessary to ensure effective implementation of the plan.

Communication policies for staff or clients exhibiting signs and symptoms of COVID-19

Staff have been informed of and encouraged to self-monitor for signs and symptoms of COVID-19. The following policies and procedures are being implemented to assess staff’s health status prior to entering the studio and for staff and clients to report when they are sick or experiencing symptoms.

If any staff or client is sick or experiencing symptoms, notify Marty Larson and do not enter the studio until it is determined that it is okay.

Communication policies for staff or clients exposed to COVID-19

Uncommon Movement has implemented a policy for informing staff and clients if they have been exposed to any person with COVID-19 regardless of location and requiring them to quarantine for the required amount of time.

Staff and clients will be contacted via email and/or text if they may have been exposed to a person with COVID-19 at the studio and provided instructions on quarantining and seeking testing.

Screening policies for staff and clients to reduce risk of COVID-19 exposure

Handwashing: Basic infection prevention measures are being implemented at our workplaces at all times. staff and clients are instructed to wash their hands for at least 20 seconds with soap and water upon entering and departing the studio, and trainers throughout the day, but especially prior to any mealtimes and after using the toilet.

Respiratory etiquette: Cover your cough or sneeze. Staff and clients are being instructed to cover their mouth and nose with their sleeve or a tissue when coughing or sneezing and to avoid touching their face, in particular their mouth, nose, and eyes, with their hands. They should dispose of tissues in the trash and wash or sanitize their hands immediately afterward.

Social distancing: Social distancing is being implemented throughout the studio. Social distancing will be practiced to the best of our ability while in the studio as we believe this (along with hand washing) is the best way to ensure safety of our staff and clients.

Also, upon entering, if someone is taking off their shoes near the back door, please close the door and give them 10 seconds to take off their shoes and move forward prior to entering through the back door. Please feel free to chat outside at a safe distance! Community is important!

Housekeeping: Regular housekeeping practices are being implemented, including routine cleaning and disinfecting of work surfaces, equipment, and areas in the work environment, including restrooms. Frequent cleaning and disinfecting will be conducted in high-touch areas. Each piece of equipment will have its own “sanitizing station.” We will limit sharing of cleaning equipment in order to ensure your safety. If any cloth is used, such as towels for the GYROTONIC® benches, they will be changed after each individual session. Otherwise, disposable wipes will be used and discarded after each use.

Clean socks will be required to be worn by all, not socks that have been worn into the studio with shoes, but rather a clean pair of socks to be used while at the studio.

Clients have the option of purchasing their own GYROTONIC® straps or Pilates straps and liners.

Communications and training

This Preparedness Plan was communicated to all trainers on May 15, 2020 and sent via e-mail to all clients as of May 17, 2020. The company will monitor how effective the program has been and make necessary adjustments as the situation requires. Trainers and clients are to work through this new program together and update the training as necessary. This Preparedness Plan has been certified by Uncommon Movement management and will be updated as necessary.
